About Us:
We are a leading steel fabricator serving the sawmill industry.  With a reputation for high-quality workmanship and dependable service, we specialize in custom steel structures and buildings, sawmill equipment and assemblies. We're looking for a driven, hands-on Shop Manager to lead our fabrication team and oversee daily operations in our busy steel fabrication shop.

Position Overview:
The Shop Manager will be responsible for supervising all shop floor activities, ensuring production targets and quality standards are met. This role involves scheduling, team leadership, equipment oversight, safety compliance, and collaboration with our project management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the steel fabrication shop
  • Supervise and support a team of welders, fitters, and laborers
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules and project timelines
  • Maintain high standards of quality control and workmanship
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures
  • Coordinate with estimators and project managers
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and inventory management
  • Provide training and mentorship to shop staff
  • Monitor productivity and provide performance feedback

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of leadership/supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of welding, cutting, and fabrication techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proven track record of managing shop workflow and meeting deadlines
  • Knowledge of OSHA and industry safety standards

Preferred:

  • Certification in welding (CWI or equivalent)
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles
  • Familiarity with ERP or shop management software
